The Cambridgeshire Guided Busway linking St Ives, Cambridge and Trumpington opened on 7 August 2011. This blog is now closed to new posts and comments. It was set up for people who travelled the busway, either as bus passengers, or users of the cycle/footpath such as pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. The blog remains visible as a historic record. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the blog over the past decade.

Bus stops and route between St Ives and Huntingdon
Letter in this week's Hunts Post asking for a bus stop at Huntingdon Garden & Leisure, and for service B to return to its older route via Ramsey Road. (Hunts Post, 26 June, page 8)
Accident on guided busway
According to the Cambridge News, there was an accident yesterday evening on the guided busway at Buchan Street, Cambridge, when a teenage cyclist was struck by a bus. The ambulance took 46 minutes to arrive.
One aspect of this report doesn't add up. Guided buses don't go along Buchan Street which is a small residential street near King's Hedges Road.
If anyone can clarify what actually happened, I'd be interested to hear. Is it possible that the young person who was injured lived in Buchan Street?
Link to the report here.

St Ives Park and Ride
Some weeks ago I posted that work had been completed on the extension to St Ives Park & Ride car park. That wasn't quite right. Since then some work has continued. The most recent has been the erection of wooden fences to prevent (I suppose) pedestrians straying into the path of the buses.
I haven't done any counting of parked cars, but it does seem to me that the end of the car park nearest to St Ives town centre is always busier than the far away section. That says to me that people are using it as a free car park for access to the town centre. Good news for St Ives shops and businesses, I guess. But not really the intention of the car park extension.

Wild flowers on guided busway
The verges of the guided busway are displaying a stunning array of wild flowers at the moment. The Ox Eye Daisies appear to stretch for miles. If you're not already planning to travel on the busway, I'd recommend that you make a special trip.
Here is a view between St Ives and Fen Drayton
And a couple of shots by a friend.

Busway closed due to bus breakdown
One of my neighbours has just told me that the bus he was returning from Cambridge to St Ives today broke down near Longstanton due to an engine fault. He said smoke was billowing out of the bus's engine, and passengers had to walk to Longstanton where they were picked up by another bus that had reached there by ordinary roads.
The affected section of the busway was closed for a while and buses had to be diverted.
The incident is reported by the Cambridge News here.

Maintenance work at Longstanton Park and Ride
The normal bus stop for west bound guided buses at Longstanton Park & Ride is out of use at present. This is due to maintenance work being carried out on the concrete drain covers alongside the platform.
Buses towards St Ives and Huntingdon are calling at the stop normally used by the Citi 5 service.
