Incident with guided bus near Somersham

Today's Hunts Post ( 20 March, page 3) carries a photograph of a guided bus at an angle across a road.

The incident took place yesterday (Tuesday 19 March) shortly after 07.35. A passenger on the bus reported that there was a bang form the back of the bus, a hissing sound and the bus swung onto the grass. The bus then slid down the road at a 40-50 degree angle. Fortunately no other traffic was affected and no-one was hurt.

It's not possible to see from the photograph whether this was the 0725 service C from Somersham to Cambridge Railway Station via Needingworth.

See article in Cambridge News.

A further article on this topic has appeared in the Cambridge News ( 9 March, pages 1 and 3) - but not yet available online. Andy Campbell, managing director of Stagecoach east, has said the, despite this accident, the busway is still safer than travelling on ordinary buses. The driver in this case also went through a red light. the driver concerned no longer works for Stagecoach.

Breakdown on busway

Mid morning  today I travelled out from Cambridge to St Ives and noticed a B bus stuck in the guideway  a short distance west of Longstanton.  Someone was taking a photograph of the incident. I did not see whether the bus was able to move on towards Cambridge as my  bus continued on its journey unimpeded in the opposite directiuon.

My guess is that busway service might have to be diverted between Longstanton and Oakington heading eastbound.

However, when I reached St Ives I witnessed an unusual spectacle, a B heading for Cambridge that wasn't a guided busway vehicle. Was it going to swap passengers at St Ives Park & Ride, or head off to Cambridge via the A14?

If anyone can add information about this event, please comment to the blog.

Diversions due to Cambridge Half Marathon - 10 March

Cambridge Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 10 March and  between 10am and 4 pm,  services on route B will be diverted.

There are notices up at some bus stops saying that the B won't call at Castle Street (Shire Hall),  Round Church Street, Jesus Lane, and New Square .

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything on either the Stagecoach or Busway websites with the information. Buses will definitely be serving Drummer Street Bus Station throughout the day.
