Partial closure/diversion this weekend

Stagecoach report that the Busway track will be closed between St Ives and Swavesey this weekend - Saturday and Sunday, 27-28 August. Buses will use the authorised diversionary route between the St Ives Park and Ride and the Swavesey Buway stop (i.e. the A1096, A14, and the village road from the Trinity Foot through Swavesey - and reverse for services heading towards St Ives). Fen Drayton Lakes stop will not be served during this period.

I've been unable to find any announcement about this on the County Council's Busway site. And a technical glitch means that it seems to be the case that you can only find it on the Stagecoach website if you're using a mobile device (running Android? or perhaps it's only visible to Chrome users? or something...). I was at St Ives Station Road and FenDrayton stops yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) and there was nothing to warn of this imminent diversion. Not exactly great customer service!

Thanks to Simon Norton for spotting this.

  2. According to Swavesey Parish Council the closure is "Sunday 29th August and Monday 30th August 2016" [sic]

Certainly the busway was open normally this morning (Saturday 27th).

This page also says "Due to the heavy lifting equipment required, the maintenance track will also be closed between Fen Drayton Lakes and Station Road Swavesey. Skanska will place diversion signs on the maintenance track at these points."

  3. Thanks to David for spotting that error. I see the news item on the Stagecoach website was last updated after the date/time I entered the blog post, so who knows what it said at that point - but it's quite possible I misread the dates!

Whippet also got round to posting the diversion details. Along with another diversion - this time in Cambridge city - which has affected route C northbound services all weekend (incl Saturday!). Too late to post anything now.

Meanwhile, Cambridgeshire County Council persists in notifying ... precisely none of these changes. Sigh!

  4. I was on the 0900 bus from St Ives to Cambridge this morning. The bus diverted via the A14 and Swavesey village. The busway was closed between St Ives Park & Ride and Swavesey. The driver did not mention to passengers that the bus would not be serving Fen Drayton. As a result, buses were taking about 12-15 minutes longer than their official time to complete their journey. On my return journey, about 12.30, the timetable seemed to be in disarray, so I returned on the 1225 Whippet 1A, via Bar Hill, which completed the journey in 34 minutes.

  5. Presumably repairs are required to the busway (heavy lifting equipment). I hope they also repair the trackway if they damage it?

  6. A diversion for cyclists, walkers was in place due to 'heavy hydraulic equipment!' Being moved!! Come on......
We ignored the signs and rode straight through. I'm sorry the diversion took cyclists right out onto the road which is more dangerous than cycling past heavy equipment being moved!
Who ever out this health and safety risk in place needs to be shot! Only in the uk would you find this kind of nonsense.
We cycled straight through the signs and low and behold nothing happened to us
What a joke closing the path off for two days. With two van drivers sitting policing the path in their vans stopping people cycling past 'dangerous' work.
This country needs a serious look at its culture of being unable to carry out simple works/affairs without being sued.
I'm just back from Europe - non of this evident
