It was still flooded between Fen Drayton and Swavesey when I looked yesterday. But the water is now quite shallow, and there were signs that it might be possible to cycle through. I didn’t try it though.
Now the Great Ouse has flooded again, and it’s not possible to cycle or walk from St Ives Park & Ride to Fen Drayton Lakes.
The Cambridgeshire Guided Busway linking St Ives, Cambridge and Trumpington opened on 7 August 2011. This blog is now closed to new posts and comments. It was set up for people who travelled the busway, either as bus passengers, or users of the cycle/footpath such as pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders. The blog remains visible as a historic record. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the blog over the past decade.
Thinking about a more longer-term solution to this is it possible that during flooded periods Cambridgeshire County Council could operate a bicycle transport service using special cycle carrying vehicles or maybe there could be be ways to carry Cycles on conventional buses between Swavesey and st. Ives. I mean attachments to allow Cycles to be carried on the back of buses are not unheard of in the world.
